Standard 3 St Joseph's Cathedral School
"Christchurch 1954. Taken on the south side of the Cathedral of the Blesses Sacrament, Barbadoes Street. The standard 3 class comprises of 22 boys and 18 girls.. The girls wore a brown pleated serge gym frock called a pinafore. The boys wore grey short pants held up by braces for some, grey shirt and black and white ties. The girls wore white blouses and a brown tie. The St Joseph's Cathedral school was situated behind the Cathedral and was flanked by Sacred heart Girl's College on the Ferry Road side and Xavier college on the Moorhouse Ave side. Miss Mary White was the only lay teacher on the premises. She lived with the Sisters of the Mission (teachers) who arrived in Christchurch in 1868." - Contributor's note
