Avon River reacts to Feb 2011 earthquake
Following 22 Feb 2011 quake, the Avon River running through town suddenly turned chalky grey-white (due to liquefaction sediment) and rose rapidly in its banks. This photograph was taken on Oxford Terrace in the Central Business District. I was hiking from our office evacuation point in Cranmer Square to my home in Avonside, along all the quake-trashed & flooded & liquefaction-strewn streets ... all still in my office-appropriate tiny strappy heeled shoes. Didn't have any other footwear, and at least it was safer than walking barefoot on broken glass!
