Crew of the Nimrod waving goodbye to the Koonya
Crew of the Nimrod waving goodbye to the Koonya
The Koonya was supplied by the Union Steamship Company to tow the Nimrod as far as it could in order to preserve the latter's coal supplies. Half of the cost of this was met by the N. Z. Government and half by the Union Steamship Company.
Highly commended entry for a collection on Shackleton's 1908 Antarctic expedition in the 2015 Christchurch City Libraries Photo Hunt.
